At River City Cafe we have been known to come up with some pretty wild creations over the years. We have made a name for ourselves by creating some of the most outstanding burger creations out there. The beauty of it is some of those wild creations have become not only our favorites but fan favorites as well.

When we create a burger we look for flavor inspirations from many different places. Where better to look than “The King” himself. You guessed it. “The Elvis”, the inspiration for our Peanut Butter Banana Burger, was named for Elvis Presley. The sandwich that Elvis gave his namesake was a favorite of the popular singer. It was one of his many food cravings. The king was known for his food cravings. When it came to this particular sandwich, he was partial to French bread piled high with bananas, and peanut butter. His fondness for the peanut butter banana sandwich was very well known. It was even documented in a book about Elvis and his mother. In this book, she describes him talking “feverishly until dawn” while “wolfing” down the sandwiches. She went deep into detail about how sometimes he liked his bananas left whole and sometimes he liked them mashed into the peanut butter, but it was always on Fool’s Gold Loaf. The sandwich was so popular it made it as a feature on a television cooking show called “Sara’s Secrets”.

A sandwich that has that kind of popularity can’t go unacknowledged, or unutilized. But it also had to fit in with what we do at River City Cafe. We are all about the burger, and that meant creating something new, or at best improving upon an old popular option.

We didn’t have to do much, but we are River City Cafe, so of course, we did something. We started by upgrading the outsides. Instead of a couple of slices of French bread, we gave it the River City Cafe bun. Or you can substitute our wheat or pretzel bun if you are feeling adventurous. If you read our blog from August of 2020, you would know that a bun is so much more than just something to put a burger on. If you haven’t read it yet, check it out here: https://rivercitycafe.com/2020/08/25/when-a-bun-is-more-than-just-a-bun/

From there, we added our signature burger. We have said it many times, and we will say it again here. We don’t just grab any old 85/15 ground beef off a shelf. We spent years creating the perfect burger. That juicy, flavorful burger that makes you just say “YUM”.

So you have a great bun and the perfect burger. The foundation is set and ready to be decorated. We carefully layer mayo on the top bun layer, delicious creamy peanut butter on top of the burger, and then we slice a fresh banana in half to place on top before completing the burger. The finished product is something you will never forget. You get the warm, juicy flavor from the burger, the clean tart-salt hints from the mayo, a salty and earthy undertone from the peanut butter and it gets topped off with the sweet banana flavor.

We hope we have created a new interest for you. The Peanut Butter Banana burger has served faithfully on our menu for many years. We wanted to bring some attention to its awesomeness. It is one of the many unsung heroes that help make River City Cafe what we are today. Stop by, we want to serve you today.
